Introduction to Dental Hygiene Services

At Karma Dental, we constantly evolve and improve what we offer our patients. We adopt a personalised and bespoke approach to treatment, particularly when it comes to our hygiene services.

From a simple, routine hygiene appointment to an entire periodontal course, your plan won't look like any other patient's. Continue reading this post to learn about our hygiene services and the options we offer to ensure optimal oral health.

Understanding Individualized Oral Health Care

Each hygiene plan is crafted uniquely for every patient.

We recommend that new patients visiting the practice book a New Patient Exam. This exam costs £95 and includes a complete oral health check. The dentist will carry out X-rays to identify any immediate, or preventative measures required for oral health.

Importance of tailoring treatments to meet specific oral health needs.

Following this initial investigative session, they will summarise their recommendations. This appointment is also designed to ensure that dental hygiene appointments are appropriately prescribed for you to assist in improving or maintaining your oral health.

This will be entirely dependent upon your oral health requirements.

Our routine hygiene treatment will take approximately 30 minutes and is great for a regular clean. It can also include an Air Flow treatment, which targets staining.

If your hygienist sees signs of periodontitis, you will be recommended to start a periodontal plan. You may already notice some of the signs, but some are detected during your dental checkup, X-ray, and/or hygiene session.

They may include:

  • Bleeding Gums

  • Bad breathe

  • Receding Gums

  • Tooth mobility/wobbling

  • Painful, swollen or inflamed gums

Types of Dental Hygiene Services Offered

Routine Hygiene Appointments:

  • This will be carried out twice per year for healthy patients.

  • The session will be around 30 or 45 minutes if you feel you would benefit (or if your oral clinician recommends you).

  • During this session, your hygienist will thoroughly clean your teeth and gums, ensure optimal oral health, and recommend any improvements in your daily routine. They may also encourage you to book a dental appointment for a more comprehensive overview of your mouth.

Periodontal Care:

  • What causes gum diseas? A range of factors! A good brushing routine, healthy and varied diet, and regular hygienist visits can help prevent bacteria buildup and disease.

  • You should also be aware that smoking, certain illnesses, and even genetics can play a role here. Your dental practitioner and hygienist can support you in rehabilitating your oral health.

  • If your dental practitioner has identified concerns, or diagnosed you with periodontal disease, they will recommend that you visit our hygienists for a periodontal assessment.

  • The hygienist will measure the pockets around your gum line during this assessment. This process will indicate the potential risks, present disease, and the next steps.

Custom Treatment Plans:

Following your assessment, you will be given a personalised plan of action. This may include some advice and routine hygiene to get you back on track. Alternatively, they may prescribe a course of periodontal treatment sessions to target and treat the disease. Alongside this course, the hygienist will advise you on how to build the most optimal at-home oral hygiene routine. Once complete, another assessment is carried out to compare your oral health scores, and once they are improved, you will follow a routine hygiene programme 2 - 4 times per year, depending on the charting results.
